Fashion forward // NUBU AW17
Constructivist painter and sculptor János Fajó’s harmonious compositions and optimistic, joyful use of color inspired the AW17 collection of NUBU. The designers are taking a stand against today’s trend: instead of reinterpreting vintage designs, they designed progressive, new pieces that only resonate the 70s and 80s in silhouettes. The sporty details that characterize the brand are more prominent than ever before.
Some of the garments are draped by metal piercing-like fixtures, while the darts of other pieces are replaced by elastic strings that can change the silhouettes of the dresses, making them asymmetrical. The square forms in cuts appear asymmetrical, and the fragmented geometric shapes of pleated skirts are displaying the determining, cheerful colors of the collection.
The collection includes many warm fabrics that offer comfort in the cold of winter: wool, knits, leather and fur – fox, mink and rabbit fur, and, for the first time, down jackets spice up the collection.
The two types of jacquard fabric used bring the colors together. The ABC-patterned fabric holds all the colors of the collection: black, white, camel, nude and fluorescent orange. The contrast of black and white is softened by the fabric with pattern of yoga poses. The romantic lace motif is turned progressive by an embroidered waterproof fabric, and the lace pattern of the wool by the sporty cuts of the garments.
The collection is characterized by the silhouettes and spirit of the 70s and 80s, like skirts with sunshine pleats, flared sleeves and pants, however, the deconstructively composed, renewed cuts strengthen the sense of the sporty feel and the forward thinking design.
